The early Covid response in March 2020 relied on Clemenger BBDO coming on board to develop a public health campaign within a week, before pivoting to explain Alert Level restrictions.
I’m so bloody glad that I made like Frost and took the road less travelled by on all this covid stuff. It was worth feeling loathed and scorned. I have no regrets.
As the ridiculousness of it all becomes more patent with the passing of time, I wonder what it must be like for the compliant amongst us to reflect on the part they played in tearing our country apart?
I wonder if the general silence on openly discussing the Covid response (despite the fact it led us to many issues today like cost of living etc) is partly due to the embarrassment of the part they (whoever they are, the media, politicians, employers, people who loved Ardern etc) played in being complicit in it? I'm glad you feel no regrets about your own choices, I agree with you. I'd rather be scorned than not follow my own values.
Agreed. As the mother of a young girl, the scorn-values dilemma has been a wonderful, albeit painful, learning opportunity for me. I believe it has afforded me a chance to pass on some valuable lessons to my daughter. As an unvaxed (for covid) and unmasked child (she has two heart conditions - I was never going to mask her or jab her with something untested), she faced cruelty from both children and adults (the worst from Doctors). There were many tears, but she held her head high throughout, and I'm very proud of her.
I imagine that embarrassment must play a part for some. Many will be putting up subconscious defences in order to resist the painful process of admitting an error. Psychologists, if they are willing and curious, have a smorgasboard of cognitive biases to untangle over the next few years.
That was a great read, thank you.

It's been a sad, but fascinating time.
Fascinating, thank you.
